Τίτλος: The Impact of Autonomous Vehicles on Ride-Hailing Platforms with Strategic Human Drivers
Περίληψη: We study a ride-hailing platform operating a mixed fleet of autonomous vehicles (AVs) and conventional vehicles (CVs), where AVs are platform-controlled and CVs are operated by self-interested drivers. Each vehicle is modeled as a Markov Decision Process optimizing long-run rewards through repositioning actions. CV behavior forms a game with equilibrium characterized by a convex optimization problem. We formulate a bilevel optimization problem (OPT) where the platform first controls demand visibility for CVs and optimizes AV actions, while CVs react in equilibrium. We analyze structural properties of the solution and evaluate heuristics like AV-first dispatch. Three numerical algorithms are proposed to solve the non-convex, non-smooth OPT, and we test them on large networks. Using NYC taxi data, we study optimal AV-CV fleet sizing under exogenous and endogenous supply. Our model helps predict traffic behavior and optimize mixed-fleet deployment given network topology and cost-reward parameters.
