Financial Accounting” is designed with the particular needs of full time MBA students in mind. It aims to develop and extend students' knowledge and understanding of the role and use of financial reports and other financial information published by business organizations. Though no prior concrete knowledge of financial accounting is required, it is envisaged that students should soon become familiar with a number of fundamental concepts of financial accounting and are expected to progress rapidly through the early stages of the course which focus on understanding key accounting concepts, the operation of the accounting system and the preparation of financial statements. This will allow the class to focus on the more substantive topics that follow. These topics include accounting and reporting for revenue, inventory, fixed assets, equity, liabilities and cash flows. Finally, two lectures on analyzing financial information integrate the Individual elements of the course and show the importance of accounting to management decision making.
