Digital surrogates and electronic versions of collection items are important nowadays, not only because they allow the efficient cataloguing and indexing of content, but also due to the ability to study, process and publish the information through electronic means. 

The course introduces the students to both the theoretical and the practical aspects of digital asset creation and representation, the digitization process and related procedures, as well as the processing of the resulting data. The course has a clear focus on digital image acquisition and 3D shape digitization, although other forms of digitized content are also discussed.

The course attempts a hands on, practical approach to understanding the principles and otherwise heavily mathematical processes behind digitization, by providing practical examples in avaialble tools and problem- and goal-driven use cases.
