Innovation in Organizations: Knowledge, Creativity and the Processes of Innovation

This course introduces the core principles of innovation and creativity from a strategic business perspective. Students explore how innovation is generated, classified, managed, commercialized, protected, and scaled within organizations and ecosystems. Through conceptual foundations and an interactive innovation strategy simulation, participants develop the analytical skills required to evaluate innovation types, make strategic decisions, and understand how firms create and capture value in dynamic competitive environments.
The course is structured in two integrated parts.
Part I – Foundations of Innovation and Creativity
This part introduces students to the fundamental concepts of innovation and creativity from a business perspective. Students will learn how innovation is generated, classified, managed, commercialized, protected, and scaled through collaboration and ecosystems. Emphasis is placed on strategic thinking, real-world examples, and understanding innovation as a systematic organizational process.
Part II – Innovation Strategy Simulation
In the second part, students apply the concepts through an interactive, team-based innovation simulation based on real companies and industry scenarios. Participants analyze strategic choices, evaluate different types of innovation, make resource allocation decisions, and experience the challenges of commercialization, competition, and ecosystem dynamics in a controlled simulation environment.
