The course aims at introducing students to the basic tenets of Game Theory paving the way for more advanced topics in a subsequent courses. We review interactions among agents that feature strategic interdependence. Examples include the interactions between firms in an oligopoly, electoral competition, competition among dealers in the NASDAQ market, R&D expenditure etc. We introduce a theory that allows for the systematic examination of such interactions and enables us to make predictions regarding outcomes of such interactions.
The course examines games in normal and extensive form. We introduce two equilibrium concepts (Nash and Subgame Perfect), along with dominance solvability. Finally, we look at two special topics, Zero-sum games and Strategic Bargaining.
