INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND MULTINATIONAL ENTERPRISES

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

Nowadays, new trends and features, such as international trade by large international corporations - Multinational Enterprises (MNEs); increasing returns to scale in production; intra-industry and intra-firm trade; and outsourcing and offshoring of production activities, dominate the observed patterns of international trade and business activities. The traditional international trade theory lacks the analytical framework and tools to analyze and explain these features. The analysis and understanding of these novel patterns of international trade and business involves the consideration of imperfectly competitive markets - monopolistic competition and oligopoly - where firms have market power.

Taking this into account, this course focuses on the analysis of the role and the economic activity of MNEs in international trade and international markets. It explores, combines, and studies international trade and international business activities in imperfectly competitive markets.
