This course provides a selective overview of modern political economics to equip the students with a set of common research tools. Specifically, the course gives an introduction to the basic theoretical models, empirical methodologies, and substantive findings in public finance and political economics. It covers not only theoretical and empirical research, but also the links between the two.The aim of the module is to familiarize the student with the tools of modern political economics and show how these tools can be used in order to answer what determines the size of government redistributive programs and why national governments often decide to not implement the socially optimal economic policy.
